Mooloolaba is located in the heart of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, aptly named for its amazing sunny climate! No matter what time of the year you visit, you will be able to enjoy plenty of sunny beach days and pool swims when staying at our backpacker hostel.
Our affordable Sunshine Coast hostel is located a 1.5 hour drive away from the Brisbane International Airport, and only a short 15 minute drive away from the Sunshine Coast Airport in Marcoola.
Picture stunning white sandy beaches, beautiful clear water and bright sunshine filled skies! But wait, nature is not all there is to offer in Mooloolaba, there are so many more things to do in and around the area.
When you are done swimming at the beach or chilling by our pool, why not grab a scooter and explore the beachfront heading over to Alex Heads, or take one of the many boat tours that leave from the nearby wharf precinct, or experience the high ropes course nearby in Maroochydore, or eat your way through the Saturday Sunset Markets along the esplanade! These are just some of the many, many things you can experience when you visit our slice of sunny paradise.

Mooloolaba Beach
Recently voted one of the best beaches in the South Pacific, Mooloolaba Beach is only a short 5 minute walk away from our affordable hostel. Relax and enjoy the sweeping coastal views and trendy beachfront eateries, or spend your day catching waves!

Australia Zoo
The world-famous Australia Zoo is located on the Sunshine Coast and is only about a 25 minute drive away from Abode Mooloolaba. The bus to the zoo leaves right out the front of Abode, so it couldn’t be easier to get there! Watch a croc show and hold a koala in the home of The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. A must-visit during your stay!

Mooloolaba Esplanade
The Mooloolaba Esplanade is where all the action happens during the day and night. It is the central strip right in front of the beach, home to plenty of trendy eateries, cafes, bars and boutiques. Our cheap hostel is only a short 5 minute walk away from the esplanade.

Whale Watching
If you are visiting Mooloolaba between June and November you are in luck – it’s whale watching season! Mooloolaba is one of the best places to spot the majestic presence of humpback whales during these months. Spot them during your daily beach walk, or book a whale-watching tour through our backpacker hostel receptionist to get up close to these gentle giants of the ocean.

The Wharf
The Wharf is also just a 5 minute walk away from our Sunshine Coast hostel, and it’s easily the trendiest place in Mooloolaba for eating and drinking, with a little bit of shopping on the side. Enjoy the picturesque marina as the backdrop and try out your new favourite restaurants, cafes and cocktail bars. Rice Boi is a local favourite restaurant and cocktail bar.

Surf Lessons
A visit to the Sunshine Coast wouldn’t be complete without a surf lesson or two! Talk to our receptionist to book learn to surf lessons. With plenty of beaches nearby – Mooloolaba Beach, Alexandra Headlands Beach, Maroochydore Beach and Cotton Tree Beach – there’s always a wave to catch somewhere close by.

Sea Life
The famous Sea Life Sunshine Coast Aquarium is another local attraction well worth a visit that is just a short 5 minute walk away from our cheap Mooloolaba accommodation. Have the experience of a lifetime and dive with the sharks or seals, or stay dry and walk through the 80 metre glass ocean tunnel to check out sea life, up close!

Black Flag Brewery
Looking for a place to wind down after another fun day of exploring all that the Sunshine Coast has to offer? Grab a table at the local Black Flag Brewery. After sampling some of the Coast’s finest ales here you can walk back to your Mooloolaba hostel room in a short 5 minutes… maybe.

Mount Coolum
The Mount Coolum hike is another must-do for any visitors to the Sunshine Coast! Join the locals and climb the mountain to enjoy a beautiful sunrise or sunset. The views from the top are spectacular. Just be aware that this hike becomes fairly steep (no rock climbing, but plenty of stairs) which may make it challenging for less fit people.
